Technology Didn’t Save My Life

Can technology be the savior to all of our problems?

As I watch technology grow and change every day, I catch myself asking the simple question: Is my life getting easier with these devices?  Is my job easier because of technology? Am I a better recruiter because of technology?

Well, the short answer to this question is: Yes. Technology helps to provide me with an environment where I can create successful opportunities for myself and for my candidates and clients. Between job boards, social networking sites, Blackberries and database systems, I definitely rely on technology to help me get the job done. But, it can only take me so far. At some point, the technology stops, and it’s my responsibility to take it to the next level.

Like most business people, I love the Blackberry, I’ll admit it! Blackberry devices are fantastic and practically essential in the work place, at this point. But, I’ve found that it’s important to use the Blackberry correctly. Some people forget that. They take that shiny new Blackberry out of the box and never really take the time to understand all of its capabilities.

I’ve done my best to use the Blackberry and other new technology to my advantage, but ultimately, what I’ve discovered it this: commitment, follow through and prior planning are ultimately the tools that help me to achieve my goals. Use technology to get ahead, but don’t rely on it. Rely on the skills that got you where you are today. And when in doubt, just Google it.
