The decade of entitlement. I am not sure what Generation X, Y, Z we are currently in. When did it happen? When was the shift? What caused it?
I’m not a psychologist but the irresponsible attitude where workers believe today that they are entitled to a promotion, more money, and more responsibility continues to spread vigorously throughout the workforce. The phrase that so many workers like to use today is I want to “work smarter not harder.” My response - why work at all! Work means effort and effort is tough. You must be mentally, physically, and spiritually prepared for the battle called work. As leaders you must stop contributing to the “Entitlement Era.” I will call it “Generation E.” (I have trademarked it.) When weak leaders facilitate upward mobility and more money to unentitled workers, you feed the problem. Stop feeding this generation without them earning it.
My motto or phrase is “work harder and smarter.” I promise it will pay off. Maybe not the first go around, but never quit. You will be better prepared for more responsibility which will earn you more money and you will have EARNED it.
